Everyone could use a little extra money. Here are 8 simple ways to start getting your finances in the green…
Sell everything you don’t use or need
Have you heard of Marie Kondo? She has an awesome book about decluttering. Only keep the things around that make you happy. Selling something for $1 is more than $0 when you donate it. We all know we have too much “things”. Have that yard sale or put it up on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist or OfferUp.
Cut the cable
Everything is on the internets now. You DO NOT need cable TV. Watch YouTube! Netflix and Chill! You have to keep some sanity and that’s ok. Start making it a point to always consider cheaper alternatives as a way to put more money in your pocket. Some cellular providers also provide online TV Service for free with their plans.
Eat at home
This one takes me back to college where I’d live off of Cup-o-Noodle, Fried Vienna Sausage and Bologna Sandwiches. Eating at home doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Having four take-out meals could equate to a week worth of groceries that’ll feed you for a week! While you are planning your meals at home, have fun and learn how to cook if you don’t know already.
Find a side hustle
Are you good at something? Mowing lawns? Giving Manicures? Walking Dogs? Making Planters? Buying and Selling? Make some side cash with your time rather than watching reruns of Game of Thrones. Nothing is wrong with hustlin’ for some extra monies.
Put your savings on auto pilot
Auto deposit some money into a savings or money market account on pay day. You’ll forget about it and at the end of the year, you’ll be amazed at all that money you saved.
Use a credit card for everything
That’s right I said credit card! Just make sure you pay it off every month. Building good credit is part of the game. Be sure to apply to credit cards that have great offers like Cashback or travel points. If you like staying at Hilton Hotels, this American Express Card may be for you. You got this! The rewards will turn into a form of compensation for your diligent work at building your credit! I really love them Amazon gift cards.
Cohabitate
Move back in with your parents, maybe some friends or strangers. Put some money back in your pocket by splitting that enormous cost for a roof over your head.
Buy used
Check out yard sales, your local Goodwill, Facebook, Craigslist or Offerup for fantastic deals on clothing, books and other things you “REALLY” need. Consider buying a used car that is known to be reliable rather than buying a brand new car.
…Result
Saving more gets you in a position to start making moves with your money. If you are already doing some of these, Great Job!
