Why are you asking yourself whether or not you should take the FAA Part 107 Exam? Is cost a concern? You do bad at tests? Are you concerned about accountability?
There are many courses out there to assist you on getting your Remote Pilot Certification but there is a very cost effective alternative, at least for test preparation.
I chose to do the (2021) 4hr FAA Part 107 Knowledge Test Prep for Drone Pilots. It only cost $20 comparative to $200 that most other courses charge.
All the content that is in the test is in this training. It is important to know subject matter that are not on the sample tests which will most likely make up 25% of the exam questions.
The exam is $175 and is only provided by certain testing centers.
[the_ad id=”881″]When going to take your test, you will be provided with a book to reference, in order to help you answer the questions.
You will have 120 minutes to answer 60 questions. Passing is a 70%. I personally used up the full 120 minutes to quadruple check my answers because there are inklings of information within the reference guide to cross examine your answers.
So should you take the FAA Part 107 exam? If you are using it for commercial purposes, definitely! If you will be under direct supervision of a certified remote pilot , maybe not. You should at least familiarize yourself with the Part 107 content. Personally I think it’s the responsible thing to do. Like everything else, if you wanna play, you need to know the rules.
Good Luck on your exam, you’ll do great! It took me nearly 6 weeks from submission to become a Certified Remote Pilot, until then, you’ll be provided with a temporary certificate to take along with you whenever you fly.
